You don’t need to be a professional baker to do this. Don’t worry if your capabilities in the kitchen haven’t been tested yet, either. We’ve separated our brown sugar cookie recipe into simple instructions that are easy to follow. So, even if you’re a beginner chef, you’ll manage to make something delicious.

Step 1

We’ll start by preheating the oven to about 350 degrees F. Also, find a baking sheet and line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

We’re getting into the process now. Melt 10 tbsp butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. While the butter is melting and heating up, your job is to whisk until it starts to brown. Usually, this takes about 3-4 minutes.

Once you see the browning, pour the butter into a separate bowl. Into it, add the remaining butter and set everything aside for later.

Step 3

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/4 cup brown sugar in a separate bowl. Then, whisk the ingredients together.

Step 4

In this step, you should add the remaining salt and brown sugar to the butter and whisk until the mixture is smooth. Also, whisk in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract.

Step 5

It’s time to combine the butter with the dry ingredients. Put everything in one bowl and start stirring. Your goal is to create a dough perfect for chewy brown sugar cookies.

Step 6

Now, you have to decide how you wish the cookies to be shaped. There are two basic options – either roll the dough out and use a cookie cutter or create balls and place them on a cookie sheet.

The latter is our favorite. There’s something about circle-shaped cookies we can’t define.

Step 7

Put the baking sheet into the oven and bake for 12-14 minutes. After you make this recipe a few times, you’ll be able to recognize the perfect time to get the cookies out just by smelling or looking at the oven.

But, just like with every other recipe, that takes time.

So, start practicing!
